I found myself bored and struggling to read through this book. Which is how I felt about the second book in the series as well. It seems I have a pattern of liking every other book.

Every time I picked up this novel I saw the cover and just shook my head in disgrace. I realize all the covers in the series are very cartoonish but this one in particular just annoyed me.

Alright, on with the plot. Eric’s memory gets wiped but Sookie finds him and takes him in. Shortly thereafter, Jason goes missing.

Sookie wants to believe that the witches responsible for erasing Eric’s memory have also kidnapped Jason, but there are no leads on this theory.

This new Eric is completely endearing and Sookie struggles to resist his charm. Again, Bill is out of the country but given that he is officially the ex, Sookie finds herself thinking about him less.

Shape-shifters, vampires, and werewolves get together to fight a war against the witches that are causing trouble in town. But these witches are not easily defeated. They are very powerful and are ingesting vampire blood to boot.

There is a pretty good twist at the end, however apart of me wanted Sookie to end up with Alcide, again. Or perhaps she should end up with the new Eric and become committed to him. That’d be a great twist.

I don’t want to deter anyone from reading this book. If you like the series so far, this one will be enjoyable as well. There is lots of actions and with witches in the story, it proves to be more of a challenge for the original characters.

I, however, just could not get into it. I find I don’t care for any of them, aside from maybe Alcide, but even he gets on my nerves. I think I will wait a bit longer before picking up the next book. But I am determined to finish this series come hell or high water.

I went on vacation for a bit and spent the whole time reading. I will have a bunch of new reviews for you soon. In the mean time, here are some books that I’ve purchased recently. Some I’ve read and I just wanted to add them to my library, others I have yet to read, and some I’ll probably never read. More my hubby’s cup of tea.

But I do love my books! This is just a small fraction of the books purchased in the last 60 days.

Bill gets involved in a high end job for the Queen but finds himself in trouble. Eric enlists Sookie’s help in finding Bill when they discover he is missing in action.

Sookie is introduced to Alcide, a rich werewolf who is slightly indebted to Eric. Alcide agrees to help Sookie find and pursue the bad guys and together they encounter many difficulties and near death experiences.

I enjoyed this book more than I did the last in the series. It picks up in pace because when one crisis is averted the next one begins. Poor Sookie can’t get a break.

Bill screws up royally. Considering he’s a hero in the past books, I kind of enjoyed the twist. Eric doesn’t change in the least. He is still pursuing Sookie, but at least he protects her when Bill cannot.

Alcide spices up the novel. He’s handsome, rich, and a gentleman and he makes sure that Sookie has everything she needs on her mission to save Bill. By the end of the story I wanted Sookie to drop Bill for Alcide.

Here’s to hoping that will happen in the future.

It’s about this cute, little, blonde-hair, blue-eye, telepathic woman (Sookie) who has a fixation with vampires.

Sookie lives and works in a small southern town and hopes every day that a vampire will walk into the bar.

Vampires have a right to live in this town (in this world) and most places actually keep bottled synthetic blood on hand, in the event that a vampire ever decides to pay them a visit.

The story says that one day a man gets infected with a virus which makes him pale-skinned, allergic to the sun and silver, ‘thirsty’ and basically undead. Even in this novel part of the story is myth but you’re left to make of that whatever you want.

One day Vampire Bill walks into the bar where Sookie works and her life is turned upside down. She soon learns that she is unable to read the minds of vampires and she feels much more relaxed around Bill.

Basically from here on out (this only brings us to the second chapter) the book is about sex and death. I would recommend it to anyone who can deal with that! It’s a light read and it’s pretty entertaining. It must be, considering it is now an HBO series called True Blood.

I have yet to see the TV show, but I will for sure be reading the rest of the series.

I cannot emphasize enough how sexual this book is. No one told me that when they recommended it. I heard “it’s a great read, fun, fresh and exciting” and “If you like vampire stories then this is the series for you” – why didn’t anyone say “oh and PS, it’s erotic and slightly pornographic?!”

I still would have read the book, but maybe not in public. I found myself at all shades of red and constantly paranoid that someone was lurking over my shoulder giving me the “tsk tsk” for bringing this book out into daylight.

It is a great read – but you’ve been warned.
