This is the first book in the Fred the Mermaid series.

Fred is a half-mermaid, half-human cross with green hair and super strength. She works as a marine biologist in Boston and keeps her mermaid self a secret. She only grows her tail when she knows that no human will see it. She can live and breathe under water, the same as she would on land, so no one is the wiser.

Fred does her job and minds her business. She has very few friends and mostly keeps to herself. Until Thomas walks into her life and requires her help in solving the pollution issue at the lake.

At roughly the same time, Artur shows up and claims he needs her help for the same reasons, and it’s not long before the three form a love triangle. Does Fred choose the Thomas the handsome doctor, or Artur the royal mermaid? Either way, her life will never be the same.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It’s a quick read and a lot of fun. But for a story about mermaids, very little takes place under water.

If you enjoyed the Queen Betsy series by Davidson, you will enjoy these mermaid tales as well!

This is the first of the Riley Jensen Guardian novels. Riley Jensen is half werewolf and half vampire, a truly rare breed that makes her dhampire, AKA the “mule” of the paranormal world.

She’s also got a twin brother, Rhoan who she senses is in great danger. On her mission to save him she finds herself in more danger and the twists and turns just don’t stop. She learns, perhaps a little late, that no one can be trusted.

Riley must team with the vampires to find the enemies and take them down. However, life is just not that easy. This is the week of the full moon, which also happens to be the mating period for all the wolves. As soon as the sun goes down, the lust goes up, along with the aching passion for doing the moon dance in the nude with whoever happens to be in her presence.

Bring on Quinn. Riley gets partnered up with a very old, but very sexy vampire named Quinn. You don’t have to be very creative to imagine what happens between the two!

I absolutely loved this book. It’s got so much adventure and romance it felt like I was reading a James Bond story where James Bond meets a nymphomaniac.

I look forward to reading the rest of this series and can only hope it keeps up with the first book!

This book has it all. Wars brew between the Titans and the Greek Gods, between Hunters and Warriors, love grows in places it shouldn’t, sickness and disease spread, and a mysterious story of Pandora’s box is told.

This is the first book in the Vampire Academy series. It’s about Rose Hathaway, a dhampir, and Lissa Dragomir, a moroi princess.

First recommendation, read the back of the book before starting the book itself, otherwise these words will get lost on you.

A dhampir is basically the ‘mule’ of the vampire world. They are half-human, half-vampire but with extra strength and speed and their main duty is to protect the moroi.

A moroi is a mortal vampire with magical capabilities. A breed of vampire that is becoming extinct.

A strigoi is an immortal vampire with no magical capabilities. They are also the bad guys. They feed off of anything living, but prefer moroi blood.

All new characters and definitions aside, this is a pretty decent book. Rose is training to be a guardian, and she’s pretty rebellious. She has an ‘act now, think later’ kind of attitude. She is bonded to Lissa. Rose can sense all of Lissa’s emotions and seems to know when she’s in trouble.

Lissa’s survival is dependant upon Rose’s intuition and strength. At the academy they are mostly protected from strigoi, but not from other students. And we all know how cruel kids can be, especially those with magical powers.

If you like vampire stories, this is just as good as any other. Despite the whole “school for vampires” storyline, it’s FAR BETTER than the house of night series. There is more character substance, more attitude, and it’s written with a certain style…

My only dislike for this novel is the constant mention of ‘the bond.’ I get it. They’re bonded. It’s one-sided. It doesn’t need to be constantly drilled in. I found myself skipping over all the “through the bond” and “because of the bond” comments. Just unnecessary.

I will, however, be reading book number two. It’s worthy of a second chance.

This is book #2 in the Morganville Vampires series and it picks up right where book #1 left off. Shane is still fighting with his dad and his dad’s motorcycle gang while Claire and Eve are trying to avoid them.

Claire again has to use her smarts to save a life, but this time it’s Shane. The countdown is on and Claire only has hours before Shane meets his end. Both her and Eve run around the city collecting allies but in a town full of vampires you can never be too sure just who to trust.

Although the vampires are scary as hell, the motorcycle gang knows no bounds. Whose side do you take in the war that can destroy all?

I really enjoyed the pace of this novel. It’s a quick read but very stressful. Everyone’s lives are at stake and the odds are stacked against them. The novel ends yet again with Claire in potentially disastrous situation and I cannot wait to read book #3!
