Henry DeTamble has a genetic disorder that causes him to time travel without cause or control. He bounces back and forth through time, seeing both the past and the future. But for Henry, this is far more problematic than it is beneficial.

His body just vanishes from the present time and appears naked at some other time. With no clothes and no control over where/when he winds up, Henry finds himself in trouble more times than not.

Clare Abshire at age six, meets a naked man in the meadow. He explains his condition and she starts to anticipate his visits. She leaves him clothes and food, and he is her best kept secret. By age 16, Clare considers Henry to be her boyfriend, though their dating arrangement is peculiar.

Henry meets Clare for the first time at age 28, she is 20. She explains all the things that happen in her past, and his future. The two then become inseparable.

This is a story of love and passion, commitment and time. It’s written with class and style, and I could not put the book down. Despite the novel being told from both Clare and Henry’s perspectives, and the constant back and forth through the ages, it’s really not hard to follow. Everything is labelled so you always know what day it is and how old the characters are. It truly is a timeless tale.

It’s a lot like reading about the Titanic, you know what is going to happen by the end of the book, but you do not know the finer details. It’s heart-breaking to say the least. It keeps you turning the page in high anticipation.

I recommend this book to anyone, but be prepared to cry. It might be tears of joy, or tears of sadness, but tears there will be.

Except it’s not good.

It’s written in the style of TigerBeat Magazine, pictures are mediocre, and it’s less than 50 pages.

I can’t emphasize enough how disappointed I am with this ‘book’. The overuse of the exclamation point and question mark is appauling.

It reminds me of being in kindergarten and having stories read to the class. The teacher is so enthusiastic while reading that the entire class is enthralled.

Except I’m not in kindergarten… Not even close. And I’m pretty sure parents aren’t going to read this book to their small children as a bedtime story, so what is the purpose?

I didn’t learn anything new. It really felt that this was a project for a high school student. Something they handed into their English teacher. It probably received an A, but that doesn’t mean it should have been published.

I bet the ‘author’ researched published articles in magazines and other biographies, took some clippings and quotes, and cut and paste some pretty pictures into this small (not even worthy of the label) ‘magazine’. I highly doubt Robert Pattinson had any knowledge of this, as there doesn’t seem to be any interviews. Just silly trivia such as “Question: What is Robert’s favourite music? Answer: Everything” … How informative.

She’s an average girl, not really popular but not entirely unpopular, no known enemies, and one super best friend named Sukie, who she’s been best friends with since the third grade.

The two girls decide to hit the road to self-improvement, with the first stop being cheerleading tryouts. Meanwhile, Lucy finds out that her favourite grandmother (also named Lucy Kellogg) is coming to stay with them for a while.

It doesn’t take long for things to take a turn for the worse. First, cheerleading tryouts didn’t quite go as planned, and Lucy is left slightly mortified. Second, an unexpected and forbidden boy from her past, is hired at the restaurant where she works. Third, and most importantly, Nana Lucy just doesn’t seem to be herself.

I absolutely loved this story. It’s a quick read and very humorous despite the serious themes. I often forgot that I was reading about a 16-year-old. Lucy seems aware that things can always get worse and yet she keeps her priorities straight and stays level-headed. It’s very witty and clever and I’d recommend this to anyone. I think anyone who has dealt or is currently dealing with someone with Alzheimer’s can appreciate this story, and I also feel that anyone in high school can relate with the nature of this book.

I loved the “he who must…” and “she who does…” names that the characters gave to each other.

“She who has mustard breath” literally made me laugh out loud!

It starts off as the worst day in history but then only seems to get worse.

At least Betsy makes light of the situation. It seems all fun and games despite her misery. It doesn’t take long for her to realize she is now a vampire. Though none of the stereotypes and vampire clichés seem to hold true. It’s nothing like the movies at all!

She doesn’t need to sleep in coffins or underground, she doesn’t need to drink blood all the time nor does she really find the urge to. She can’t seem to kill herself despite numerous attempts. She can’t eat food anymore, but she also doesn’t need the bathroom so I suppose there are plusses. There are good vamps and bad vamps and all of them want to show Betsy the ropes of being a vampire, or just kill her for non-compliance.

She has her friends and her mom for full support and she meets some other vampires that take her under their wing, even though she really doesn’t want to be there. Her dad is still spineless and his wife is just as arrogant. So not everything changes after death.

It’s not long before Betsy is haled Queen of the Vampires, and like it or not she has to deal with that too.

I absolutely loved this book! It was so funny and sarcastic that I just couldn’t put it down. It’s a very light read, and although it’s yet another vampire book on my very long list, it was quite refreshing. I will read the rest of the series for sure, but I urge you to read this one. If you dislike it, than you can take a pass on the series, but if you like a reckless female heroine, this is the story for you.

So this post is merely to vent out my frustrations on the Twilight phenomenon. I have to say that I fell victim (like many people out there) to Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga. It didn’t take me long to read all four books in the series, buy all the collectibles, and anticipate the up and coming motion picture. I find myself joining Twilight communities, meeting new Twilighters, googling new information, and youtubing new clips and trailers and things.

I am all for people making comic book scenes, drawings to music, or pictures in slide show format. I think it’s great that people are as passionate as I am, more creative, and are willing to share their work. But alas, here is where I start venting. If you put together a slide show of pictures of a movie (Twilight) to a song (any song of your choice, but say one that’s in Twilight also for argument sake) then please do NOT add pictures of other movies.

Rob Pattinson plays Edward Cullen in Twilight. Fabulous. He also played Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter series. Equally fabulous. Putting a slide show together called “Twilight”, featuring music in Twilight, with clips of Edward and the other characters, is excellent… Throwing in random shots of Cedric – well now that is just a slap in the face.

Cedric Diggory does NOT equal Edward Cullen. Yes, they were both done by Rob Pattinson but really folks they’re different. If you want to put together a slide show of Harry Potter vs Twilight, by all means – but at least label it accordingly.

And another thing – amateur spoof films – they are not remotely funny and no one is interested. You want to make that on your spare time, go right on ahead – don’t waste my time by posting things like that on the Internet. They only get hits because of how it’s labelled and people are royally disappointed with what they see… disappointment followed by venomous rage.
