Talk Radio

My husband was on the radio yesterday, again. Talking about Social Media and his Blog, and other things that I don’t fully understand. But as a doting wife, I listened.

The broadcast started at noon, but he wasn’t on until 12:30p so I was forced to listen for that first half hour. Nothing bores me more than talk radio. Bleh. The two male DJs started talking about Justin Bieber and his recent antics. Apparently, someone hacked into Bieber’s phone so to retaliate Bieber posted the hacker’s phone number on Twitter. So the hacker then endured a plethora of phone calls and texts which then raked up the phone bill and upset the hacker’s father.

So the two men on the radio broadcast discussed their thoughts. First, Bieber abused his power. Second, he’s a kid. Third, he’s Canadian. Up until this point, I had no idea the men on the radio were American, but they continued. “Just because Bieber lives here, doesn’t mean he’s from here.” Alright…

Then “there are only two Canadians that I actually like, Cathy Browne and Danny Brown.” The broadcast continued on like this and I got the impression that these two DJs really don’t like Canadians. So I started emailing my husband. Every time I heard a comment that was insulting I was getting more and more frustrated and I would fire another email off to the husband.

Basically they went something like this:

First off, Danny Brown isn’t Canadian, get your facts right.
Second, to base your opinions of a country based on a teenage pop star who decided to act his age and retaliate against someone who pissed him off, doesn’t say much about you either.
And lastly, you like Chris Brogan, ’nuff said. (Referencing something said earlier in the show.)

I really wish I could comment on the website.

I don’t understand why he would think that Canadians aren’t listening when they have “Canadians” as guest speakers. I mean, maybe Canadians don’t listen when it’s just them, but you gotta figure they would tune in for their fellow speakers…

At this point my husband responds “they were just joking, Cathy Browne works on the show.” Well it didn’t sound like a joke to me. It just wasn’t funny and I like to make fun of people too. I’ll jump on the “Bieber sucks” train any day, but not because he’s Canadian. Even if he was American, that wouldn’t matter.

Well I guess my husband grew tired of his Blackberry constantly buzzing with my comments because I then heard an apology on the radio. “Sorry if we offended any Canadians, we hate everyone equally.”

And there you have it. The moral of this story is, if you complain to the right people long enough, you’ll get an apology on boring talk radio.

I guess it doesn't really matter where you come from….2 idiots are simply 2 idiots. This time they happen to be American.
