I had the opportunity to see Step Up 3D on Friday and I absolutely loved it.
Basically they took the cheese factor away and made it a really good dance movie. I can’t even tell you which was my favourite dance scene, that’s how awesome it was.
I will tell you there were two flaws, by my count. Plot holes, if you will. I’m going to attempt to discuss the film without giving away any spoilers, but feel free to stop reading and just watch the clips.
The main story is that the House of Pirates is a dance crew that lives together in a warehouse type of flat. They came off the streets and they all take odd jobs to pay the expenses of the house they live in. But they are falling short and the bank is going to foreclose. They decide to compete in this “World Jam” to make the money to pay the rent.
Plot hole #1, they meet a girl who comes from a wealthy family and could pay the bills before the bank takes the house. This isn’t even mentioned in the movie. It doesn’t make sense that the guy who comes from a wealthy family can have the house taken away from the Pirates, but the girl from the same family can’t help the Pirates out.
Then, at the end of the movie it seems the Pirates are losing the battle. They look defeated. Natalie comes to save the day with some words of encouragement. “We can do this, we’re ready” or something like that. I’ve attached a clip of this scene.
Plot hole #2, the dance isn’t that good. The two of them rehearsed something better that involved what looked like street fighting. And they don’t really need her. Shortly after this routine, the break out into their awesome routine involving lights. There is no way the opposing crew could have topped that.
Other than that, the movie was amazing. Here are some clips.
The Water Dance (one of my favourites)
Robot Rock (another favourite)

My only recommendation is that you watch Step Up 2 (the Streets) first. You don’t need to but it helps with characters, and some of the lines at the end are funnier if you get the reference. You don’t need to watch Step Up the original, however, Camille (Moose’s best friend) is from the first one. Just a little note, for those who didn’t catch that.
