It’s Morphin’ Time

I had a very thorough discussion about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers today and thought I’d share.

I realize that there are many things wrong with this old show, but as a kid the only thing that wasn’t believable to me was the fact that these individual robots run by the power rangers ultimately form one ginormous bot and SOMEHOW all the power rangers end up back to back in the middle of the megatron.

I could buy the fact that these people jump into the air and magically end up in their flying robots in the middle of the desert that they appeared in. Fine. Then all the power rangers drive/fly these robots and do some head bobs. OK.

The leader of the pack pulls out a crystal spike and plants it in the only hole operating the robot. It lights up a picture matching his side profile with a picture of his tyrannosaurus, so if you didn’t make the connection before, now there is no doubt. Excellent. The crystal becomes a stick shift and he calls out to the other power rangers and they form one big, mega-bot. Sweet.

I grew up with the Transformers, so all of this Morphin-goodness seems pretty logical so far, despite the graphics. But considering the mastodon and the sabertooth tiger become the legs of the giant robot man, how do the people operating the legs end up in the head?
