This is the story of Ava, a 15-year-old girl who watched her boyfriend die. It’s written in verse and similar to diary in format.
Ava has to cope with the loss of her boyfriend, Jackson. He was her other half, and the only part of her life that she really enjoyed. Without him, she feels empty. There is sadness and guilt as she believes it is her fault that he is dead.
It’s hard to move on as she is haunted by his presence. She just can’t move forward if he doesn’t ever go away.
This is the first novel that I’ve read written in verse. I’m not sure how I liked it, to be honest. It was a good story, but I’m not sure I understand the writing style. It’s not poetic and it’s a bit distracting. But I read the entire novel in under two hours, so I couldn’t have been too distracted.
I’d recommend this book to young teens trying to cope with death and uncertainty. It’s a light read, despite it’s heavy nature.
