Banned Books

Alright so there is a very long list of books that are banned. I really don’t understand why this is necessary. It’s human nature to want the things we can’t have, and to do the things we’re not supposed to. So by telling us we can’t read something, well that’s just going to intrigue us all the more.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (does anyone else see the irony in banning this book?)

Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut

James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl

Indian in the Cupboard by Lynne Reid Banks

Blubber by Judy Blume

How to Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell

The Golden Compass (series) by Philip Pullman

The more books that are banned, the more I feel the need to read them – bring it on!

James and the Giant Peach was banned? What for? Now I’ma have to Google that – what a crazy ban!

I’m not sure why these books are banned or who bans them. I can only assume it’s for religious reasons. The Da Vinci Code and The Golden Compass series for example, have huge religious undertones. The way I see it though, is that if your religion is the true one, then you would have no doubts or questions, and would take these books for what they are – stories.

Give your opinion. Tell everyone why you hate the book… but is banning it really necessary?
